Fibre Broadband - Launch Of Linksys MAX-STREAM EA7500 AC1900 MU-MIMO Wireless Router

Alumni (Retired)

We’re living in an increasingly connected world when new digital products join our home network every day for smarter and faster access to our resources, and it’s frustrating when the wireless performance of our various routers degrade with every new device added.

This is where the new Linksys MAX-STREAM EA7500 AC1900 MU-MIMO Wireless Router comes in. With MU-MIMO (Multi-User, Multiple-Input, Multiple-Output) technology, the MAX-STREAM AC1900 router sends advanced Wi-Fi to multiple devices at the same time and same speed. This means that your whole family can play, stream, and work at once, without experiencing lag or buffering--at up to 2x the speed of a non-MU-MIMO router.

 Other benefits and features include:

  • Advanced Connectivity: USB 3.0 port to connect external storage devices or printers and share across your network at speeds 10x faster than USB 2.0. Users can connect other devices like printers and USB flash drives through the USB 2.0 port.
  • Dual-Core CPU: 1.4 GHz dual-core processor for extremely fast data transfer speeds.
  • 3x3AC: Three simultaneous streams of data for stronger, faster performance.
  • Beamforming Technology: Focuses Wi-Fi signal to each device on your network.
  • Smart Wi-Fi App: Access and control your home network from anywhere. The Network Map feature provides a visual map of the home network so you stay on top of device status and signal strength.

1) All this sounds good. But why does it matter to me?

To understand the potential behind this router, you first need to understand how traditional routers work. Most routers are good at transmitting data, but only in one direction. Hence, your devices are “queued” to receive data - like cars entering an expressway via the same gateway. This is also why you see speeds drop when more devices tag on to your router.

MU-MIMO is unique in the sense that the router is able to detect the bandwidth a device is capable of receiving and then only broadcast that bandwidth for the device. In other words, it frees up bandwidth the device is not capable of receiving to other devices attached to the router. This allows each user/device to receive more consistent bandwidth with Beamforming Technology and 3x3AC.

2) What are the speeds I can expect?

The MAX-STREAM AC1900 Multi User-MIMO Router offers two dedicated Wi-Fi bands that deliver combined speeds of up to 1.9 Gbps - up to 600Mbps on the 2.4Ghz band and up to 1300Mbps on the 5Ghz band.

Examples of wireless Standards with Link Rate are as follows:

IEEE 802.11ac (up to 1300 Mbps for 5 GHz*)

IEEE 802.11n (up to 600 Mbps for 2.4 GHz/5 GHz*)

IEEE 802.11g (up to 54 Mbps*)

IEEE 802.11a (up to 54 Mbps*)

IEEE 802.11b (up to 11 Mbps*)

*Actual speeds will depend on the wireless standard installed on your devices including (and not limited to) lower wireless network capacity, data throughput rate, range, and coverage.

3) Wow, this sounds complicated. Is it difficult to set up?

No it isn’t. Configuring and managing your home Wi-Fi with Linksys Smart Wi-Fi App is now fast and as easy as 1-2-3.  There’s no longer a manual to read and no specific IP address where you’ll have to log on.

What’s even better is that you can even schedule automatic firmware updates using the App so you can always enjoy the updated features for your router without the hassle of using a desktop/laptop!

Check out the other cool features supported by this App:

Guest Access: Create a separate, password-protected Wi-Fi network for up to 50 guests and easily share the password.

Parental Controls: Ensure a safe Internet experience for your kids -- even when you're away from home. Restrict access to inappropriate or distracting content, control usage, and block specific devices from accessing the Internet.

Device Prioritization: You can prioritize devices that need the most speed.
