I have a Samsung HD Box from Starhub and a WD Hard Disk Drive (1 TB) to record programs.
It works fine.
I have a question ... when I turn off the TV and the Samsung Set Top Box, the WD Hard Disk remains active and spinning.
Is it OK to disconnect the WD Hard Disk when the Samsung Set Top Box is turned off, and then reconnect it when I want to record? Or will repeatedly disconnecting the WD Hard Disk Drive ruin the WD Hard DIsk Drive?
Thanks very much for your response
Do you the Samsung HD Set-top box is on standby, dimmed red light.
When the Set-top box is in standby mode, the power is still available.
Hence the hard disk will continue to spin only, but the head is at rest away from the platters.
I guess that means that no harm will come to the hard disk from it spinning 24/7 forever?
@Stavros , By unplugging and plugging it back when require actually do much more harm to the hard disk then leaving it spinning on the set top box.
IMO, just leave it if it doesn't bother you.
