WD 1TB My Passport Ultra - after subscription termination

Hi All!

My 2-year subscription to Starhub TV has ended; and I have decided not to renew. My question is can I still use my WD 1TB My Passport Ultra as a regular external hard disk for my computer? How do you re-format it so that it can be recognised by the computer as an external drive?

I safely unplugged theWD 1TB My Passport Ultra from the Samsung set top box, and then connected it to my PC. It is not recognised by the computer; cannot even re-format.

Any help will be much appreciated!

Hi @sally8899

Can you try to wipe it using your set top box? Alternatively you can contact western digital for assistance too.

The set top box can only "optimise the  drive". Cannot wipe out or format.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi,

Please format the Hard disk on your computer in order to be able for use on computer.

All recorded shows will be deleted.

Whatever functions available on the set top box is meant for use on the set top box only.

Edit/Add:

Please do unlock &or erase all shows via the set top box.

There should not be any problem as i am able to format on computer.

There is a possible of the Hard disk &or shows which are locked as this will prevent any erase or deletion of the shows and thus locked hard disk.

There are other methods to directly deletion and formatting on hard disk, when OS format do not work.

I see. Can you proceed to Western Digital to obtain their assistance in reformatting the drive?

Go to Disk Management.
Select that Drive partition and right-click to select Delete first and next then Format accordingly.

Thx but how to go to disc management if I can’t even see the drive?  I tried in three computers, none sees the drive.

Since the HDD has no active partition &or drive letter there will not be shown on.

Hence you need to go to disk management to delete/format the drive with drive letter before using.

Try these steps.

Connect the HDD to the computer via USB cable to any computer USB port.

On Windows click on the Start and input in the Search box "Management" to look for and click on "Computer Management".

On the Computer Management window on the left panel below Storage - click on "Disk Management".

The HDD would be shown on the right panel and then click in the partition to highlight.

On the partition do right-click to select Delete the partition.

Once deleted you can click on the partition again to right-click to select Format as you wish.

Regards.
