I use a few applications very routinely and have never exceeded my data cap of 3GB.
However, I received a message as at 7.18pm I have already used up 2.8GB. I decided to not open any applications after that and stuck with apps that required little data. When I was using a wifi network, another message came in saying I had exceeded my data usage.
As I use a third party app to track my usage, it showed a surge of about 1.78gb from 7pm to 8pm today. This is very shocking to me and I hope that someone would be able to help.
