Backup & Transfer at the same time.

1.  Copy contacts from SIM card to Phone  (if you always keep your contact in the SIM card)

2.  Use a old or unused SIM card, and remove your existing SIM card and slot in the old &or unused SIM card copy contact to phone.

3.  On the new phone, slot in the old &or unused SIM card and copy contact to the phone.

4.  Finally, remove the old &or unused SIM card and slot in the New SIM card.

In this way, you have a backup copy of your contacts.

Others, such as video, pictures; can use the microSD card for backup.

Lost your phone and your new SIM card & microSD card will go with it.

But you do had a backup copy of contacts on SIM, and others in microSD card.

Finally, the old & unused SIM card has become useful.

More unused SIM cards, separate your "Official" and "Personal" &or "Family" contacts separately, as most are having 2 phones, for official use & family use.

Nowadays, SIM card is chargeable, and do make useful of it. MicroSD card is cheap.

iCloud require internet connection.
