Feel dizzy if you stand up too fast? Often find yourself panting after 1 flight of stairs? If you do, you might be anaemic.


What is Anaemia?

Anaemia is a medical condition where your body is lack of haemoglobin which is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen to the rest of your body.


What are some of the signs of Anaemia?

  • Easy Fatigue
  • Shortness of breath, especially during exercise
  • Chest Pain
  • Dizziness
  • Pale Skin
  • Headache
  • Insomnia


Any special diet for Anaemia?

Eat more:

  1. Iron-Rich food:

Iron helps your body to make haemoglobin which your body lacks. There’s 2 types of iron-rich food and you need both haem and non-haem iron. Have your meals together with vitamin C, it helps to absorb the iron more effectively. Avoid having tea together with your meals as it lessen the amount of iron being absorbed.

Beef, Lamb, Seafood (Mussels, Oysters, Clams), Chicken Liver, Egg Yolk


Non-Haem iron:

Dark Chocolate and Cocoa Powder, Spinach, Broccoli, Whole Grains, Fortified Cereal, Barley, Soy Beans, Kidney Beans, Lentils, Nuts


  1. Vitamin B12-Rich food:

Vitamin B12 is essential as it helps to keep our blood cells healthy and the formation of red blood cells. Some of the foods that are rich in Vitamin B12 are Sardines, Shellfish, Beef Liver, Fish, Crustaceans, Tofu, Fortified Cereals, Egg Yolk, Swiss cheese and low fat dairy products.
