5 Burger Restaurants Worth Visiting on Your Days Off

Alumni (Retired)

The end of the year is nigh, which means school holidays, office closures and the expending of surplus leave is upon us! There are many ways to enjoy your downtime, but it feels especially good to savour a juicy burger and an ice cold drink in the middle of a weekday – especially when you’re with your favourite people.

With that in mind, I’ve put together 5 great burgers that’re definitely worth a visit on your days off:

1. burger joint Singapore

An unassuming door. Dubious black curtains. A dingy, graffiti-scrawled interior. And some pretty amazing burgers. I loved the complete change of pace and atmosphere I felt once I stepped into the restaurant; as if I entered a rabbit hole and emerged in a windowless wonderland where neither time nor space mattered: just my cheeseburger and I at the centre of our own universe. Bring your friends, get a booth seat, contribute to the scrawls on the nearest piece of furniture, and forget the rest of your day. They have meatless options with just Portobello mushrooms for patties, and those are just as good as their beef ones.

2. Artistry Café

Artistry is pretty much my go-to place on days off, and most times, I’m there specifically for their signature Chilli Crab Burger. Ordering the burger is simple enough, but the biggest decision is yet to come: do you dunk it into the bowl of chilli crab gravy for each bite, or do you empty the lot onto your burger and mop it all up? I love their coffee, brewed from locally-roasted Liberty Beans, and you can also wash your meal down with one of their refreshing beers on tap, all of which have names I can neither pronounce nor spell. Dogs are welcome on the outer deck, so bring your furry friends along!

3. Omakase Burger @ Picnic SG

Omakase specialises in smashed burgers, which I assume are named after the way satisfied diners absolutely smash them and lick their plates clean. As if their signature cheeseburgers aren’t already delectable enough, the outlet at Picnic SG exclusively serves up a variant topped with applewood smoked bacon, which tastes even more uplifting than it sounds. Picnic SG is a nice place to bring the kiddos, because it has a designated children’s entertainment area along with multiple dining zones, each with its own furniture theme to keep things interesting.

4. WOLF Burgers

Very different burgers, very different fries and very different milkshakes. I think there’s something for everyone here at WOLF Burgers, and the one I enjoyed most is the Buttermilk Fried Chicken burger. Which comes topped with salted egg sauce, yes I’ll say it again, salted egg sauce, on a bed of refreshingly tangy slaw and crispy buns. You can have a long, drawn out debate with your buddies here about whether the chicken or the egg came first, but both will arrive in your bellies in double-quick time as soon as your food is served.

5. Steeple’s Deli

File under “oldie but goodie”. From what I’ve heard, Steeple’s has been around for almost two decades, presenting comfort food to teenagers who’ve since returned as parents. If there’s just one word I’d use to describe this joint, it’s “warm” – from the ambience to the service to the smiles to the only feeling you walk away with. I’m recommending their burgers, but I’m also heavily recommending their peanut butter milkshake (I had two). Perfect for an afternoon with family.

Love the Burger Joint- its right opposite my gym which is both a blessing and curse. Regarding Artistry, Ive heard that 3-4 years ago they created a nasi lemak burger...guess it wasnt McD that came up with that!

Maybe eat the burger first. Let it digest, then burn it off at the gym. 😝
