Above are the general specs of the new LG G Flex 2. I will only discuss on the Hardware for this post.

Has LG managed to use the curved technology into new heights for Flex 2? As the name suggests, the phone flexes in a 23-degree arc. In this 2nd iteration LG has found the right formula for the amount of curve and size reduction.

Does the phone need to arc?
I personally find that the arc have been carefully executed to have several practical benefits. It makes it easier to reach top corners of the device as compared to a flat 5.5-inch panel. Also, making calls is much easier as the mic and speaker rest naturally nearer to your mouth and ear. The ergonomics of the phone is not only sexy but wraps the jaw line as if it’s designed for the comfort of users. It reminds me of those age-old “banana” phones you use at home.

Does it really bends and flexes?
After the iPhone 6 bendgate videos no one really want their phone to bend permanently in that manner. However G Flex 2 has shown that the built quality is pretty rugged and proved to survive the “bendability” test. The G Flex 2 has improved beyond its predecessor’s 700mm radius curved profile by offering a range from 400 to 700mm across the front, back, sides and top-to-bottom edges.

It kinda follow the curvature of the butt so no issues if the phone is slipped into the back pocket of the jeans too! It fits right in! The back cover is designed to bend and flex as shown in the image below.

Does the phone heal on its own?

You don’t have to worry of placing your phone in the same pocket as your keys or coins. G Flex 2 cases have a 10 seconds (18%faster) self-healing technology that has unique chemical technology that allows minor scratches to fade away. However in my test, only accidental hairline scratches fades off. The intentional deeper scratches remain.

Hows the display?
The screen is protected with Corning Glass infused with LG technology that offers more resilience to damage than Corning. This is useful to prevent any damage especially chip off of the glass at the corners.
Screen resolution is also up from 720p to 1080p(403ppi) with size reduction form 6 to 5.5inch. Displays are noticeably sharper with bight and rich details. The screen is easily viewable in sunlight with brightness at maximum.

Overall LG has refined the curve technology to optimize the ergonomics, usage and durability of the G Flex 2. The display has been upgraded to a gorgeous sharp 1080p display. 4k display is not necessary here as it doesn’t maximize battery life.

Find out in the next post for how LG Flex 2 fares in the software perspective vs other iterations of LG phones. Stay tuned!
