I've got FO termination point downstairs but only one cat5e line to connect VeOnt to where I want the set top and router.
Can I use managed switches between the VeONT and the Router and Set Top box and connect the switches with just a single Cat5e as shown below? Any recommendations for the Switches and advice for configuration?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Your networking on using managed switch would not work with IPTV.
IPTV required a direct connection to ONT port 2
Internet connect is to ONT port 1.
Also IPTV cannot connect thru Router, as it will not have any signal.
Option may be available, by using Powerline for internet.
Then the single ethernet cable is for IPTV.
I am not Starhub staff &or related to.
Thanks @Ah-Pin-Kor Do you know if that switch would be the TL-SG2008 smart switch?
Would that work or do I need a fully managed switch?
I did bought 1 so-called D-Link DGS-1008A 8-Port Gigabit Easy Desktop Switch, but may not work as what @Ah-Pin-Kor mentioned.
There is no setting, setup, config, etc.
It is just plug and play, and auto detect on IN &or OUT.
I bought it mainly for internet connection that is to extend additional ports, for such as HDD Server.
I accidentally bought this Seagate Central Personal cloud storage with 3TB for $169 at Challenger.
I taught that it was USB HDD, but according to the sales staff, that is for network only.
In the end, i had to get the correct USB HDD 3T.
As since i recently have an extra Router as repeater, then i have no need to use this 8-Ports Switch.
That is this extra router come after i hought the 8-Port switch.
Just went to Challenger at Funan (Funan will be closed by end this month).
Happen that there is a promoter from TP-Link.
With regard to TL-SG2008, he mentioned that this switch is either for internet or IPTV.
These 2 cannot be combined in 1 TP-SG2008.
This is what he mentioned.
So maybe there are others devices may able to do it.
Ask for other devices, he may not be familiar.
Anway cable broadband and cable TV will be ceased.
