Fibre connection issue intermittently

Hi,

I'm using Fibre 1Gb internet connect from ONT to Linksys EA7500 router.

I just back from oversea today (ONT and router were off during my holiday) and having this connection drop issue intermittently after turn on all the devices. Below are the scenario and steps taken.

ONT --> EA7500 router

Internet IP

-------------------

IP : 58.96.245.xx

Mask : 255.255.248.0

Gateway : 58.96.240.1

DNS : 172.17.5.36 / 172.17.5.68

Ping to gateway and yaoo.com keep dropping as below and for sure internet surfing also dropping. Turn off the ONT and router for 5min then turn on but problem still the same.

PS C:\> ping 58.96.240.1 -t

ONT --> Notebook (Windows 10)

Internet IP

-------------------

IP : 218.212.236.xx
Mask : 255.255.254.0
Gateway : 218.212.236.1
DNS : 172.17.5.36 / 172.17.5.68

Ping to gateway and yahoo.com without any dropping and disconnection. Turn off ONT and router for 5min then turn on again. Connection got no issue.

Question:

1. Why the router receive different set of IP address which seem to cause the connection issue?

2. Can the router get the same 218.212.236.xx IP range which doesnt' cause any issue?

3. How can this be resolved?

Thanks.

Mr Goh

Re: Fibre connection issue intermittently

Hi,

Router usually would retain any previous IP.

When you power off ONT for a long period of time and later power on it may issue another IP.

Hence your issue is most likely due to mulitple IP Address confict issue.

There are several methods &or options to resolve this.

1. By yourself.

Power Off both ONT and Router and computer.

Power On the ONT first and wait for PON indicator green light stable, about 1 minute.

Next is to power on the Router and wait for the boot process to complete, about 2 minutes.

Finally power on the computer that is connect to the router and check the connection.

Note that this method is to push the IP to ONT and then to Router.

2. Alternately there is a need to do factory/hard reset on Router to clear all setting to default.

As your ONT already have the IP which will push to Router since the IP is clear after reset.

But the other issue is that you have to redo to assign SSID/password and other settings.

This method is to power off the router after the reset; the ONT need to power on first before the router.

In this way it would be the same as method 1 as for ONT to push the IP to router.

For method 1 & 2 are similar as your ONT IP is stable and thus to push to Router.

Hence you need to check on the IP after this is done as for confirmation.

3.  Contact 1633 direct to Broadband tech support staff, not cs.

They will be able to see your connection at their end and may see multiple IP.

Follow their procedure to refresh your IP.

4.  Write to forum staff to assist you and they may forward to Broadband tech support to contact you.

Hi song911

If restarting your modem/ONT and router does not help resolve the issue at all, can you provide me with your full name, NRIC, contact number and email address via Private Message and we'll keep in touch?

Re: Fibre connection issue intermittently

Hi eric3743,

Thanks for your suggestions.
I have follow your steps 2 to reset my router and re-setup again and seem like the IP never get changed. The gateway and DNS also exactly the same Smiley Happy

The good things is the connection seem to be stabilised after an hr later although the WAN IP settings remain the same.

I will monitor the connection.

Thanks.
