Just bridged 2 DIR-865L.

ONT===Fiber Modem===DIR-865L (A)---wireless bridge---DIR-865L (B)===Notebook/PC

  • Getting up n down load speeds of 200Mbps (Tested with starhub speedtest)
  • Bridged using 5Ghz wireless band
  • Cat6 LAN Cable from DIR-865L (B) to notebook/PC.

Verdict: Excellent (Forget about HomePlugs, you will never get this kind of connection with them) Smiley Wink

Can you teach me how to bridge my Dlink 868L to Dlink 865L?

Can the D-Link DIR-865L support Starhub 1Gbps fibre's speed connected via cat6 LAN cable? What's the max achievable speed?

Yes, the 865L can be used with 1Gbps plan.

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

Thanks for the info.  Is there any settings I need to configure before I can achieve 1Gbps speed?

I was previously using the same router on a 100mbps starhub fibre plan, but had now upgraded to 1gbps starhub fibre plan.

1) When I connect from the ONT to my PC, I was able to achieve about 1Gbps speed via speedtest.net.

2) However, when I connect from the ONT to the DIR -865L router and then to the PC, my connection speed dropped to 100mbps.

The above tests were achieved with the same ONT, same PC, same cat6 cable.  I would think that the culprit is the router?  What do I need to set to get the 1gbps speed?  Thanks!

@Pauche

Please do note that you need to reset certain setting - IP Address.

Broadband customers each has an "static" IP Address.
BUT the IP Address is NOT Permanent to a particular broadband customer.
This is what i found out.

If you are satisfied with the current speed, then don't bother.
This is for in case your speed is somewhat just like your previous plan,
if you doing upgrade, it mean the IP Address remain same.
And you need to know  about computer setting.

In your case, most probably is the IP Address in the router is different.

I do not have much knowledge on these matters.

Well, you could try and see whether it is true or not.

Steps:
1. Use ONE computer to do this only, while other devices using connection, disable it first.
2. Windows OS. Start -> Computer -> right click select "Manage"
3. Select "Device Manager" (under System Tools).
4. Network adapters. (1) Ethernet Controller (2) Wireless; you need right-click to "Disable"
5. Shutdown the all computers & devices (disable wireless), including ONT & Router.
6. The reason is to release the IP Address, and then grab another IP Address for 1Gbps.
7. Give some time, and then finally, switch on ONT, then Router. (Individual)
8. When the Router has fully lights (stable), then Switch ON for one computer.
9. You can use either wireless or wired to start with. For wired, insert the cat5e cable first before ON the pc.
10. For wireless, on the computer, go back to steps 2 to 3, then 4 is to "Enable".
11. For wired, after plug in cat5e/6 cable, switch on and do the same.
12. Do speed test, and verify the IP Address.

This is what i found out when my connection almost less than 10Mbps.

And the IP Address have changed.

Most probably the IP Address is intend for 500Mbps.

That is to say, Starhub could have allocated certain IP Address to different speed.

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

Thanks for the detailed info.  Apparently, it doesnt help.  The speed is still my old subscription's speed around 100mbps.

I have even reset the router, and still no luck.

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

If you connect your PC to the 865L, then that to the ONT, there should be 2 cables.

Have you tested both cables are capable of 1Gbps?

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

Did you do any reset on the Dlink DIR-865L router.

I forgot to add that to reset the router.

As you did not mentioned about doing the reset on the router.

This will reset back to the original setting, which there are no need to do anything other setting.

I am using this Dlink DIR-865L router.

When something happen to the speed, i will reset the router, everything back to normal.

The reset button is behind and is red colour.

My original plan is 200Mbps and then upgrade to 500Mbps.

I was advice by the sales staff, to reset or restart the router (i forgot which, but i did both)

The speed of 500Mbps is confirmed when using wired.
