To all,

Out of curiousity, does anyone know how to place this D-link router to get optimise Speed?
Which direction should the Power Led/Internet Led & WPS button side face?

Shouldn't really matter right since radiowaves go out in circular form (from picture depiction/assumption), I thought more important is put it up 'high', i.e. on the floor it's bad.

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

I have tried different directions and tested with Starhub Speedtest.

Conclusion:

If it is pointing at youself, you can get the best Speed!

Don't know if this is also the same results for everyone?

I was trying this just late yesterday night, and I did not notice any improvement whether I'm directly in front or at the side. In fact, I dare not post my result of the 865L wifi since I have not determine the reason why it's happening.

But to cut story short, I have 2 WIFI AP running now, Apple Extreme & 865L, running both at 5Ghz, with AEEX I can max out the speed rather easily (95mbps up & down, I only have 100mbps cable connected to it)... with 865L testing with the same laptop (connected directly to 5402 with gigabit speed), I can barely get 50Mbps (upload better in the 60-70mbps range)....

Testing purely with wireless N, not AC dongle (the AC dongle reported link speed of 768mbps, vs the usual 450mbps I'm seeing on my laptop).

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

@kon_sg yup, have been trying with same and different SSID. Somehow it keep connecting to the 2.4 range when I am in my room (with same SSID for both). I guess it is the range thingy. Am staying in a 3BR apt. So I guess, I would have to name it differently which I have already done so. Let see how it goes for the next few days. Thx for your feedbak.

Re: D-Link DIR-865L

Just did speed test on 865.
Test condition:
- 5 Meter away
- 1 room away with 2 walls(Room door open)
- Door closed it will reduced about 10%
- Only operate 1 wifi devise

Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205
2.4GHz
Download Speed: 97920 kbps (12240 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 78708 kbps (9838.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
5GHz
Download Speed: 104938 kbps (13117.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 75976 kbps (9497 KB/sec transfer rate)

AC1200
2.4GHz
Download Speed: 74818 kbps (9352.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 94267 kbps (11783.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
5GHz
Download Speed: 162745 kbps (20343.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 185696 kbps (23212 KB/sec transfer rate)

AC1200 result on 2.4GHz poor than without it. But 5GHz better..
I think speed test not mean anything, I tested many time and some got worst result. But when I surfing, can felt that 5GHz without A1200 are the best. I try use it and swop each other to select the best one.

I rated Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Smiley Happy Thumb up for D-Link DIR-865L..
So, StarHub.. Give me this devise! Smiley Tongue

Thank you..

Make sure your wifi nic can actually support 5Ghz... If you have INSSIDER, if you cannot see 5Ghz network around you at all, then most likely your WIFI nic cannot support.

I also experience that some laptop not that smart, if when you setup the wifi settings in your laptop and connect to the 2.4Ghz AP, it will somehow "remember" it, so try to reset, or having different SSID will definitely benefit you. If 5Ghz can reach your whole house, can you pretty much use 2.4Ghz as backup (with different SSID)
