Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

Hello there! I have rarely had any problem with my home wifi broadband connection in the past two years since I first signed up. However, due to cleaning activities, i had to plug off the devices two days ago. I plugged them back on a few hours later but then I couldnt connect all my devices to the wifi connection. We called starhub and was given some instructions, and we were then able to connect a macbook. But all other devices remained unconnected. Went to contact starhub again and was told to contact router provider. Our router is d link dir865L. Does anyone have any experience on this perhaps? Thanks!IMG_8740.JPG

For the router, the connection is correct.
As the blue cable can connect to any of the 4 ports in blue color.

For the ONT is connection is wrong.
Remove the blue cable from Port-1.
Remove the grey cable from Port-4 and insert into Port-1.
ONT Port-1 is for internet.
The other 3 ports has no connection.

Hence the grey cable connect from ONT Port-1 to the Router (865L) yellow port which indicate "INTERNET".

The blue cable is for wire connection to laptop & pc, if nec.
As you are using wireless connection for the laptop, then remove the cable and keep for future use.

As for the last question, will explain to you later.

For the SSID and password, if unsure, do login to the router.

Refer to picture attached Router_Login
Open the browser and input as shown, top-right > 192.168.0.1
There is no need to change UserName & password, just click Log-in

Picture: Router_Wireless_Setup
On left panel, select "Wireless Settings" top panel select "Setup"
Then click on the last option: Manual Wireless Connection Setup.

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

The problem lies in you connection.

For the ONT, only Port-1 is for internet thru the router, which is the blue cable.

You need to remove Port-4 with the grey cable, which is why there is no internet connection.

For the router DLink DIR-865L there is 4 ports.

Connect the grey cable (Cat6, right) from the ONT Port-1 to Router yellow port "INTERNET".

Then connect the blue cable (Cat5e) to any of the 4 ports of the Router, to the computer.

This should work.

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

Are you using IPTV.

For IPTV, the cable should be on ONT Port-2 only.

It is better to use grey cable (Cat6) for internet.

And the blue cable (Cat5e) for IPTV as it do not need better cable.

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

Hi there!! Thank you very much for your reply!

So, please correct me if im wrong:
1. Grey cable is to be connected from ONT port 1 to router's internet port.

2. Blue cable is to be connected from which port of the ONT to any of the router's four ports?

The tv is the one that can connects to wifi, so usually i'm able to access youtube or web browsing on it! I'm not sure if thats IPTV..?

Thank you very much!!

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

Using the grey cable Cat6 is better than the blue cable.

The description on Cat6 is indicated along the cable itself.

The blue cable is Cat5e is an improved version of Cat5 which limit to 100Mbps.

Any of the 4  "LAN" port to insert this blue cable.

Ignore the IPTV as i thought you have IPTV (Internet TV) as it seem you are not.

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

I see Smiley Happy

So where do I plug the blue cable into? One of the four ports of the router to where? Smiley Happy

Oh, but the current situation is that my laptop can connect to the wifi (not using cable) and can access the internet well. Meanwhile my mobile phone can't connect to the wifi at all.

Re: Wifi connects to macbook but not mobile phones and tvs

The blue cable can be insert to any of the 4 LAN ports, no difference.

Since you are using wireless for laptop, then keep the blue cable for future use.

You can check on the laptop on the SSID, which is the same for phones.

Your wireless require to input the SSID and password.

There are 2 SSID, that is for  2.4GHz  and  5GHz  bandwidth.

The 2.4GHz band may clash with other equipments, such as, cordless phone.

Some phones and laptop do have dual band > can use either band.

The router itself do have sticker on both SSID and password (for both SSID).

If you did not make any changes in the router setting, the default SSID and password is located either behind or under (> for DLink 868L).

In the phone Setting > Wi-Fi to turn on the wireless.

Best is to done next to the router, just for setting the wifi SSID and password.

The SSID will be shown in the listing, and select the SSID on the router, provide if you did not make any changes.

Select the SSID and input the password, also next to the SSID on the router.

For  2.4GHz band, it will appear something like this  dlink12

And for  5GHz band it added a number 5, in this way  dlink12-5D

The password is for both.

Select the 5GHz if the phone can detect.

Eric.
