Was watching “Making a dictator” on Nat Geo. Tying to watch anyways. There were clips where the subject is speaking in a foreign language (Clips of Mobutu) and once again, the English subtitles are partially obscured by Mandarin subtitles.
Starhub, if you’re going to insist on providing a comprised viewing experience for those of us who don’t read mandarin, you jolly well better charge us less.
Also, the show had some really weird censorship going on. Every time the narrator mentioned a certain word, the narration was muted, sometimes at the end of or even mid sentence. It’s obvious, weird and really stupid. My best guess is that the word was “communism”. Please clarify.
We are checking on this, Buzzed. We'll get back to you with updates.
Watching ‘Valley of the boom’ on Nat Geo. starhub, you are now plastering subtitles on people’s faces. For gods sake, SORT THIS OUT!
Any updates?
I have replied to you via PM.
Still waiting.
Hi Buzzed, our channel partner at FOX has investigated on the issues raised. Here’s the response:
Ep. 3 of Making a Dictator on 11 Jan 2019
There is no issue with the subtitles from our side as it does not overlap the English translation anywhere. The subtitles were positioned above the English text.
Ep. 1 of Valley of the Boom on 16 Jan 2019
Taking the position of the on screen graphics into consideration, the subtitles would appear at a much more upper level than normal & also at different positions on the screen. And being the first episode of the series, from a creative point of view, the producers wanted to make it a bit more engaging by jumping between scenes from various contributors in rapid succession. So this would give an effect that the subtitles are actually on the face.
We have tried our best to blend the aesthetics of the show with the subtitles, but due to the random placements of the graphics, it might appear a bit abstract when viewed on screen.
