Hi,

I understand the old Sim card will probably be deactivated.

But I had the impression and information that the old phone will be locked (reported lost ) amd cannot be used anymore).

Ia that true?

Hi,

I do not have a iphone to try out as this is just a hypothetical question.

I just need to seek advice from anyone who has experience with this.

How about a possibility to help me check with the 3rd party service provider who is handling this lost*/replacement service?

Would they habe the ability to lock up the Iphone and render it lost/useless ?

Many thanks for your assistance and Merry Xmas! !

To my understanding, that should not be the case. Could you try and see if the phone is locked?

Firstly, i do not use iPhone, but i had a tenant who used iPhone 'fan'.

One day, my ex-tenant (say, girl) had a called from her friend.
Her friend asked her where she was, and she said she was in town.
But her friend said he knew she was at home, as he had set the iPhone by location.
This meaning that in iPhone, if the User set to locate where the iPhone is, it can be trace by another phone.

Another example, in STOMP
The Stomper (say, he) had lost his iPhone.
When the thief switch ON the iPhone, it automatically took a picture, front camera, of the thief, and sent a picture to the User.

Then he sent the message to the thief that he had the picture on the thief, asking the thief to return, else he will report.

So, basically most of the iPhone security features can be set by the User.
The telco can only deactivate the SIM card.
When told by the Court to trace the location of the mobile, the telco may able to trace.
If you buy or sell the mobile handset, the dealer need your NRIC & the mobile handset imei, to make a record on the book.
This is required by law (i think) is for the Law Enforcer (Police) to check for any stolen mobile handset (reported).

Edit:

It is up to the User to lock by SIM card.

Telco not allow to lock mobile handset. IDA policy.

Hi Wincoho,

As much as i would like to know the answer to your question, I'm also been waiting for my questions to be answered (since last Xmas).

i wondered if the starhub agent who replied initially had left or what?

Hi Ambrose,

Perhaps you can do a closure on our discussion? I find it very inappropriate for customer service to just drop off from a conversation with no reason or whatsoever.

The vendor will only lock the lost phone after getting consent from the user.

Hi Kai Boon, i've lost my phone yesterday and just filed claim to Starhub smart support team. However it rather disappointed that the CSO told me something different as you claimed above. In the event if the lost phone is retrieved, the owner must surrender the phone to Starhub or the user will deemed to commit to criminal act (or something i didnt get it correctly). Secondly, the data & information in the lost phone will be deleted, and which Starhub do not guarantee that the phone can be activate or use after replacement service request being lodged.

i'm filing a claim to Comfort taxi company that i dropped my phone in the taxi i took yesterday but putting low hope that it could be retrieve and return. However i still putting hope on it..with that term & condition from Starhub, i'm not certain whether to proceed the replacement at this moment.

above is for all others note, or Kai Boon could correct me if i'm wrong at any point.

Thanks.

No.

Once being reported on lost phone, and you pay for the replacement;

The phone then belong to Starhub &or vendor.

Any phone reported lost will be recorded on the Police log report.

Occassionally, Police will visit phone dealers &or shops to check if they have reported lost phone.

That is why when someone do trade-in the existing phone, they (dealers & shops) have to record your details.

When you find back your lost phone, you need to surrender it to Starhub &or vendor.

This is because they have give you the replacement phone.

Technically your lost phone owner is Starhub &or vendor.

If you do not return to Starhub &or vendor and Police, it means you are holding "stolen property".

Meaning; like you have trade-in your lost phone to get another phone.

So technically your lost phone had changed hand, that is Starhub &or vendor is the owner.

Lastly, Starhub & vendor can lock the phone, as Starhub have all the phone details & IMEI.

For how iPhone work, pls refer to my post on previous page.
